Broadcom 9580-8i8e RAID controller PCI Express x8 4.0 12 Gbit/s

The MegaRAID 9500 series is the first PCIe Gen 4.0 RAID adapter family in the industry, with PCIe Gen 4.0 host and storage interfaces.

The MegaRAID 9580-8i8e adapter, which is based on the SAS3916 high-port count PCIe 4.0 x8 RAID-on-Chip (RoC), outperforms earlier models.

The 9580-8i8e is compatible with PCIe SFF-8639 Module (U.2) backplanes that are already in use. This lets customers improve performance in situations where bandwidth is always growing.

The 9580-8i8e, when combined with two industry initiatives to enhance the deployment of Tri-Mode SerDes technology, is critical to getting the maximum performance and flexibility out of U.3 backplanes:

• Universal Backplane Management (UBM), which defines a standard backplane control and management architecture,

• The SFF-TA-10001 Specification (U.3) defines a common bay type for SAS, SATA, and NVMe drives.

The MegaRAID 9580-8i8e can function in all three modes at the same time, serving NVMe, SAS, or SATA devices, thanks to Tri-Mode SerDes technology.

The adapter negotiates between speeds and protocols so that it can work with any of the three types of storage devices.

Tri-Mode support allows for the non-disruptive evolution of existing data center infrastructure.
