With the Thunder HX FT77DB7109, Tyan has a new platform based on Intel's Xeon Scalable Processor Family and its 5th generation of 4U 8GPU server platforms.
The new version builds upon the success of previous generations by incorporating additional features as requested by company`s customers over the years.
Xeon Scalable Processor Family
The new Xeon Scalable Processor is Intel's largest advancement in a decade and brings many new features and capabilities:
Up to 28 CPU cores per socket;
50% Increased memory bandwidth with 6 memory channels per socket;
Memory speeds up to DDR4-2667 (depending on CPU SKU);
No slowdown in memory speed when deploying 2 DIMMs per channel;
Increased PCIe connectivity to 48 PCIe Gen3.0 lanes per CPU socket;
Xeon Scalable Processor Family processors offer more PCIe lanes than previous generations.
In addition to adding a 17th slot to the rear of the chassis, the Tyan Thunder HX FT77DB7109 takes full advantage of this configuration and increases total expansion capability from its predecessor.
One x16 card can be installed next to eight double-wide GPU cards, ideally for NVME software-defined networking or high-speed networking such as 100 GB EDR Infiniband, 100 GB Ethernet, or 100 GB Intel Omni-Path.
A FT77D-B7109 is available with optional support for the Intel Xeon Scalable Processor Family's newest CPU, the Skylake-F with integrated 100 Gigabit Omni-Path networking fabric.
Dual socket SKL-F CPUs are supported for a total of 200Gb/s fabric connectivity in the B7109F77DV14HR-2T-NF.
The Intel® Omni-Path Architecture (Intel® OPA) Host Fabric Interface offers an end-to-end high-bandwidth, low-latency fabric with optimized performance and helps HPC clusters be easily deployed.
Support for Active/Passive GPUs
Because of the mechanical design of the FT77D chassis, expansion cards can fully utilise the 4U enclosure, allowing FT77D-B7109 to accommodate the widest range of accelerator cards available today without requiring a specialized lid for active GPU cards.
PCIe x8 Internal Storage Mezzanine
FT77D-B7109 has a new internal storage mezzanine slot, enabling customers to use SAS IOC, SAS RAID, or x8 NVMe risers.
In this way, customers can install any combination of 14x 2.5" SATA drives, up to 8 SAS drives, and up to 2 NVMe devices without having to use any expansion slots on the rear of the server.
IPMI 2.0 with Redfish integration
FT77D-B7109 delivers a barebones server with AMI Megarac firmware supporting IPMI 2.0 with iKVM and DMTF Redfish management protocol.
Application Targets GPU-intensive frameworks such as:
cryptography;
oil and gas exploration;
particle physics;
DNA sequencing;
cryptocurrency mining;
facial recognition on a large scale;
