In order to manage, secure, and optimize wireless networks effectively, network managers need easy access to the 5500 Series, which automates wireless configuration and management.

The 5500 Series uses Cisco CleanAir® technology to safeguard 802.11n performance by enabling remote network administrators to monitor real-time and historical RF interference for rapid troubleshooting.

Wireless controllers supporting Cisco Application Visibility and Control (AVC), Cisco's deep packet inspection (DPI)-based Network Based Application Recognition 2 (NBAR-2) engine, are considered Cisco Wireless Controllers.

As part of the NBAR-2 engine, applications are classified, quality-of-service (QoS) settings are applied, and business-critical applications are prioritized and dropped.

Cisco AVC exports NetFlow Version 9 flows to Cisco Prime Infrastructure or an external NetFlow Collector.

The 5508 supports Bonjour Services Directory in order to advertise and utilize Bonjour Services in a separate Layer 3 network.

Flexible licensing options

The basic access point license allows for the addition of up to 500 additional access points as the company grows.

With the Cisco Gateway Router Enterprise Wireless Mesh, access points can dynamically establish wireless connections in locations where it may be difficult or impossible to physically connect to the wired network because of the licensing structure.
