The Extreme Networks ExtremeSwitching 5420F-24S-4XE is a switch designed for enterprise edge deployments

It is a universal hardware platform that simplifies deployment experience through powerful cloud management and simplified licensing. The switch is managed and rack-mountable, with L3 capabilities. It has 24 Gigabit SFP ports, 4 1 Gigabit/10 Gigabit SFP+ ports, and 2 SFP-DD ports for stacking.

The 5420F-24S-4XE supports a variety of Ethernet Fabric services, including Extreme's Fabric Connect and IP Fabric, and Fabric Attach for automated connection to either Layer 2 or Layer 3 Fabric Services. It also supports IEEE 802.1 Audio Video Bridging (AVB) when running Switch Engine OS, allowing it to deliver reliable, real-time audio/video transmission over Ethernet. The switch has a fixed power supply and fixed fan(s), with a second field-replaceable power supply. It supports 30/60/90W PoE capabilities, making it an ideal wired backend for wireless APs or in support of next-gen power Ethernet devices. The 5420F-24S-4XE has a switching capacity of 208 Gbit/s and a forwarding rate of 154.8 Mpps.

UNIVERSAL HARDWARE PLATFORM

The 5420 as a universal hardware platform simplifies your deployment experience through powerful cloud management and simplified licensing. It also helps avoid technology lock-in by enabling you to select your desired use case through a simple change of operating software and/or feature set. A 1-year ExtremeCloud IQ Pilot subscription is also included with each 5420 switch.

ETHERNET FABRIC SERVICES

The 5420 supports a variety of Ethernet Fabric services, including Extreme’s Fabric Connect and IP Fabric. It also supports Fabric Attach for automated connection to either Layer 2 or Layer 3 Fabric Services. Extreme’s Fabric Connect on the 5420 enables the creation of virtualized networks that automate network operations, simplify network provisioning and enhance security, all while reducing the strain on network and IT personnel.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE STACKING

The 5420 also supports high-speed stacking when running Switch Engine via its two built-in SFP-DD stacking ports. Up to eight systems can be stacked using qualified SFP+/SFP-DD direct attach cables and optical transceivers.
