Fractal Design Define R5 Tower Case FD-CA-DEF-R5-BK from Fractal Design offers a modular design and simple access

Behind the front panel's hinged section are two removable external 5.25" drive bays. Fractal Design Define R5 Tower Case FD-CA-DEF-R5-BK is designed to offer a computer case that suits your build, with enough of space for components and easy access from the side and front of the case.

Enough of Space for Components

Behind the front panel's hinged section are two removable external 5.25" drive bays. Eight 2.5 or 3.5" disk bays and two mounting locations beneath the motherboard designed exclusively for 2.5" SSDs are present inside the case.

Seven expansion slots allow you to install adapter cards, including a GPU up to 12.20" in the default configuration.

Users can install graphics cards up to 17.32" by removing the top HDD cage, though. Additionally supported are CPU coolers up to 7.09" and, in the default configuration, PSUs up to 11.81". When a 140 or 120mm fan is mounted in the bottom of the chassis, the PSU's size is nevertheless restricted to 6.69 or 7.48".

Two Dynamic GP14 140mm fans, one at the front and one at the back of the case, are already mounted in the Fractal Design Define R5 Blackout Edition Window Black. Users may also add more fans to the front, side, and bottom of the case, as well as up to three fans at the top, bottom, and additional fans.

Radiators can also be installed if you want water cooling

When drive bays are removed, radiators up to 360mm can be mounted at the front of the case. In a same vein, the case's top can accommodate radiators up to 420mm when the 5.25  .There is no drive bay cage. Radiators up to 280mm can still be installed even with the drive bay in place.

The total thickness shouldn't be greater than 2.16 when putting a 420, 280, or 140mm radiator and fan at the top of the case.Although employing radiators at the bottom of the case limits PSU size to 6.49, both 120 and 140mm radiators can be mounted at the back and bottom of the case.

The Fractal Design Define R5 has a left-side panel with a quick-release locking mechanism and a right-side panel with captive thumb screws for simple access. Additionally, users can access the front fan, external 5.25 inch fan, by opening the hinged front panel "dust filters and drive bays.

The Define R5's sound dampening and ModuVent covers, which let users hide unused fan vents and reduce operating noise, complete this accessible design. Up to three fans can be controlled via a built-in three-speed fan controller, and two USB 3.1 Gen 1 and two USB 2.0 Type-A connections are available on the front I/O panel.

Additionally, there are separate 3.5mm audio input and output connectors, power and reset buttons, and a drive activity LED indication. With high density noise-reducing material used throughout the chassis to enable optimum sound absorption while maintaining ventilation and cooling capabilities, this case is ideal for silent computing.

ModuVent

Equipped with revolutionary, tool-free ModuVent fan slot covers that let the user cover the fans to increase sound absorption or add extra fans if needed. Air intakes on the front and bottom are covered by dust filters that are simple to access from the front of the case. Three-speed fan controller with support for up to three fans is included into the front panel.

Behind the motherboard tray, there are two dedicated SSD mounts with tool-free installation and removal. The exterior drive bay cage may be removed with ease to create more interior room, which can then be used to mount an internal drive bay cage, boost ventilation, or accommodate water cooling components.
